WFTU solidarity statement with the people in Myanmar

World Federation of Trade Unions

The World Federation of Trade Union, on behalf of its 105 million workers who live, work and struggle in 130 countries of the 5 continents, strongly condemns the coup d’etat that is carried out in Myanmar by the armed forces of the country. Myanmar army declared a one-year state of emergency and detained several government leaders including Aung San Suu Kyi.

We express our internationalist solidarity with the suffering people of Myanmar, and we demand the full, immediate and unconditional release of the imprisoned political leaders, and the withdrawal of the state of emergency, the night-time curfew and all the anti-democratic coup orders.

We call upon the workers and the people of Myanmar to resist with disobedience against the military coup and to militantly struggle for the implementation of all the human, democratic and trade union rights and freedoms in the country.

The international class-oriented trade union movement unshakably stands on the side of the Myanmar workers, farmers and popular strata. We relentlessly struggle for the defence of the right of Myanmar’s people -and all the peoples of the globe- to freely decide and determine their present and future.
