The WFTU, which is the militant voice of 95 million members in 130 countries in the five continents, expresses its sincere condolences to the people of Indonesia, and in particular, to the relatives of the 844 people who lost their lives because of the powerful earthquake and tsunami that stroke the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. At the same time, 600 people were hospitalized and 48.000 were displaced while severe damages were caused in buildings and infrastructure.

The world class-oriented trade union movement stands in solidarity with the workers and the people of Indonesia. Also, the WFTU demands the recovery of the affected areas and financial support to the citizens as well as the implementation of adecuate measures that will ensure the protection of the people from the natural disasters.
