With deep sorrow we watch the consequences of the recent tsunami on the Sumatra and Java islands in Indonesia with hundreds dead and wounded.

Even more so, it causes us great rage the revelations that many people could have been saved if the alert system for timely removal of the world was in operation. Unfortunately, it turns out once again that in this system of exploitation and profit, people’s lives are less valuable than the profits of the few. similar is the situation in our country, Greece, due to the lack of measures to protect the life and health of the people and workers.

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), representing 95 million workers in 130 different countries across the world, expresses its most heartfelt condolences to the people of Indonesia after the tsunami caused by a volcanic eruption on 22 December.

The Union of Workers in the Bank Sector of Athens, member of PAME, stands in solidarity  to the mobilizations of our comrades and fellow workers of India, who have pronounced a 24hour strike on the 26th of December, against the attack of the government  with dismissals as a result of bank merging, shutting down of bank stores and so on.

A fire, broke out in ESIC Kamgar Hospital in the northern suburb of Andheri Mumbai on Monday, causes the dead of at least 8 people and the injury 147, according to the latest information.

The accident proves, with the most tragic manner, the lack of appropriate protection measures in the places of work, education, medical treatment and living of the ordinary people.

This week has been full of China news, from Presidential tweets and tariffs to the New York Times series China Rules.”Meanwhile, socialists contend with mixed feelings about what China’s socialist revolution has become. We were therefore especially grateful for the opportunity below to explore these issues from an anti-imperialist perspective. (Eds.)

Current debates on anti-imperialism must contend not only with the United States, but also with China. As U.S. leftists continue internecine fights over Syria or Nicaragua, Chinese  economic and political power continues to expand: nine-figure investments in Israeli tech companies and arms deals; military bases stretching from Sri Lanka to Djibouti; dubious trade deals with Venezuela and Jamaica.  And China’s turn to neoliberalism is a sui generis chapter in modern history, let alone in the history of the Left.

Today: more than 40.000 people joined the AITUC Public Rally to support the General strike of January 8-9,2019 against the anti labor agenda of the government. The wftu Delegate underlined the contribution of KLMAHENDRA a historic personality who was WFTU President, and the decisive role of Gurudas das Gupta and Amarjeet KAUR who is leading now the AITUC.

The WFTU was represented by the Central Offices General Coordinator Anda Anastasaki who gave the following speech:

The Japanese Communist Party has joined other communists and leftists around the world in demanding fair treatment for foreign workers in their country. Japan is a country with relatively very few foreign-born residents, but recently the government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been sponsoring legislation in the Diet (parliament) that would allow a limited number of what elsewhere are called “guest workers” into the country, in this case as “trainees”.  On October 30, communist members of the Diet met with the Japan Federation of Lawyers to discuss the proposed legislation and reach agreement on a common approach.

The political crisis in Sri Lanka is assessed by the People’s Liberation Front (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as ‘a moment for an alternate party’.

Fresh elections are scheduled for January 2019 following a political crisis between the major political camps both claiming for power in Sri Lanka. President Sirisena dissolved Parliament last week and snap elections are expected for early January. While one camp is represented by President Sirisena and his nominee Rajapaksa as Prime Minister, on the other hand there is the opposition of Wickremeshinge who called the move to dissolve parliament as unconstitutional. The political crisis was discussed by People’s Liberation Front (Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna) leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake in an interview.

comunistaOn the second anniversary of demonetization, the Indian economy is yet to recover from the disaster imposed on our economy and the people by Prime Minister Modi.

All the claims that it would unearth lakhs of crores of rupees of black money and end corruption have proven to be utterly false. On the contrary, with 99.4 per cent of the banned notes back in the system, it is clear that demonetization has, in fact, been the avenue to convert black money into white helping the most corrupt. On the other hand, crores of people dependent on daily cash transactions have been devastated and more than 35 lakh workers in the unorganized sector have lost their livelihood.

comunistaThe National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued on November 8, 2018 the following statement to the Media:

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India condemns the brutal killing of local party leader and Sukma district Janpad member Com Durva Kalumu on November 7 by the goons of the rival candidates while he was returning at around 4 p.m. after campaigning for Manish Kunjam who is contesting from Konta assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh.

comunistaThe Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the gunning down of five people in Tinsukia district in Assam yesterday.

The environment of hate created and fanned by the RSS/BJP in Assam lies at the root of the murders yesterday. Apart from the state government failing to ensure the protection of law and order, these killings are part of a larger campaign of hate and violence. This must be put a stop to.
