  • Bolivarian Government issues protest note to Great Britain

    On behalf of the people and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Vice-minister of Foreign Relations for Europe, Yván Gil, delivered on Friday a Protest Note to the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Andrew Soper, on the occasion to reject once more, in a forceful way, the words issued by the State Minister for the Americas, Alan Duncan, which show their clear alignment with the interests of Washington.

  • CP warns against 'growing threats' to peace and security

    Communist Party international secretary John Foster warned of the growing threat to world peace, the international economy and the environment at the weekend.

    Speaking to the party's executive committee, he cited US President Trump's increasingly aggressive attitude towards China and Russia, in keeping with what the US National Security Strategy calls a new era of 'great power competition'.

  • Only socialism can solve global warming crisis say Communists

    'The real message from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is that capitalism has caused the deadly global warming crisis and is incapable of solving it', John Foster told the Communist Party's political committee on Wednesday evening.

    Pointing out that burning oil and gas accounts for 50 per cent of global carbon emissions, he said the big corporations showed no intention of helping reach the Paris Agreement targets to limit global warming to 2°C, let alone 1.5°C.

  • Young Labour appoints Lula as its honorary president

    morning star neuLABOUR’S youth organisation has voted to appoint imprisoned Brazilian socialist leader Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva its honorary president. In a statement on LabourList this morning, Young Labour’s national committee said that it had voted to honour the former president, condemning the “smear campaign” directed against him by the “elites” of Brazil.

    The hugely popular Lula, Brazil’s president from 2003 until 2011, has been imprisoned since April on charges that his supporters say are trumped up and politically motivated. Judges ruled that, as a prisoner, he was not allowed to stand in This Sunday’s presidential election, which is being closely contested between Lula’s stand-in Fernando Haddad and the far-right populist Jair Bolsonaro.

  • Communists greet TUC 'shift to the left'

    The recent TUC conference in Manchester marked a small but significant shift to the left, Communist Party trade union organiser Andy Bain told his party's Political Committee on Wednesday evening.

    He welcomed resolutions on the economy, privatisation, precarious and low-paid work, a 'New Deal' for workers, public sector pay, social security and universal credit, the Grenfell Towers and Windrush scandals, a national education service, sexual harassment and fracking.

  • Hundreds of Citizens of Israel Sign Letter Supporting Jeremy Corbyn

    Hundreds of Israeli citizens, Jews and Arabs, have in the last few days signed a letter expressing support for the leader of the British Labour Party, Jeremy Corby. The letter will be sent to Labour’s Annual Conference that will take place in Liverpool starting next Sunday, September 23, and continue until Wednesday, September 26. The letter of support reads as follows:

    “We are Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel, committed to civil equality within Israel, to an end to the occupation and the blockade of Gaza, to a just peace and justice for the Palestinian refugees. The solidarity of progressive forces abroad is vital to our struggle, and we therefore welcomed the election of Jeremy Corbyn, a committed campaigner for peace, as leader of the British Labour Party.”

  • TUC meeting supports 'People's Brexit'

    A well attended TUC fringe meeting in Manchester heard the case for a 'People's Brexit' on Tuesday evening.

    Local Labour MP Graham Stringer made clear his opposition to right-wing neoliberal policies whether they came from pro- or anti-EU Tory MPs. In particular, he defended his decision not to support a Commons amendment from Tory pro-EU rebels that would have limited the ability of a future British government to reform VAT.

    'Operation Stop Corbyn' has gone up a gear as the prospect of a left-led Labour government gets nearer, according to Communist Party general secretary Robert Griffiths.

    He told his party's Political Committee on Wednesday evening (August 15) that British ruling class circles were determined to prevent the election of a socialist Prime Minister who has a long record of opposing austerity, privatisation, nuclear weapons and imperialist war.

    In Das Kapital, Marx explained how and why — as the result of capital accumulation and technological advance — capitalism creates a 'disposable industrial reserve army' from dispossessed, displaced and redundant workers.

    Today, capitalism reproduces this reserve army on an ever-growing scale. Uneven development, Third World debt bondage, the deregulation of labour markets, accelerating technological change — together with large population movements caused by imperialist war and climate change — have added scores of millions of migrant workers and refugees to that army.

  • European peace groups discuss key challenges

    REPRESENTATIVES of peace organisations from 13 coun­tries gathered in London at the weekend for the annual European meeting of the World Peace Council (WPC).

    It was hosted this year by the British Peace Assembly (BPA), a WPC affiliate. The BPA and the regional co-ordinator, the Por­tuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, jointly chaired the discussions.

    The meeting at the Marx Memorial Library opened with an address by guest speaker Jamshid Ahmadi, who is the WPC vice-president and presi­dent of the Association for the defence of Peace, Solidarity and Democracy in Iran.

    Seventy Communist parties from 50 countries have been meeting in Shenzhen, China, this week to mark 'The Historical Contribution of Karl Marx and the Contemporary Significance of Marxism'.

    Launching the conference, International Minister Song Tao said the event 'demonstrates the firm commitment of the Communist Party of China to maintain and develop the scientific theory of Karl Marx in the 21st century'.

    ON 8 May 1945 the wartime allies, Britain, the Soviet Union and the United States, declared victory over fascism in Europe. Approximately 50 million people had been killed in the war - half of them civilians and almost half within the borders of the Soviet Union. Many millions died in the concentration camps: Communists, Socialists, all those opposing fascism and up to six million Jews, Roma and gays, victims of a hate-filled ideology designed to divide working people.

    A combative demonstration against any kind of facilitation of the new massacre was held by the KKE Party Organizations in Cyprus on Sunday, April 15th, in front of the British base from where in the early hours of Saturday morning the aircrafts that attacked Syrian positions took off.

    The combative call of the KKE was met with the positive response of many workers during the leaflet distribution that was held on Saturday in workplaces and in the center of Nicosia and of Larnaka, with massive participation.

  • Communists condemn reckless and illegal aggression in Syria

    The Communist Party of Britain unreservedly condemns the latest act of aggression in Syria by Britain, the USA and France today (April 14). International law cannot be upheld by breaching the most important articles of the United Nations Charter, which ban unprovoked military attacks by one member state upon another.

    As the post-World War Two Nuremberg Tribunal ruled: 'To initiate a war of aggression is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole'.

  • Syrian Army General Command: US, British and French aggression with 110 missiles on Syrian targets, air defense downs most of them

    SANAThe General Command of the Army and Armed Forces stressed Saturday that most of the missiles fired by the US, Britain and France tripartite aggression on Syrian targets in Damascus and outside it were shot down.

    The General Command announced that a tripartite aggression was carried out at 03:55 a.m. (at local time) by the US, Britain and France through firing 110 missiles towards Syrian targets in Damascus and outside it.

  • Syrian Air defense confronts the US, French and British aggression on Syria

    SANASyrian air defense confronted on Saturday a tripartite aggression launched by the US, France and Britain on a number of sites in the surroundings of Damascus and Homs.

    SANA reporter said that the aggression targeted the Research Center in Barzeh and warehouses for the Syrian Arab army in Homs where the air defense intercepted several missiles and downed them.
