  • CP of Ireland exposes hypocrisy of NATO-EU and servility of Irish government on the Russian agent case

Communist Party of Ireland issued a statement after expulsion of a Russian diplomat calling it as 'servility' of the Irish government and reminded the historical crimes of NATO-EU.

A statement on 29 March 2018 by the Communist Party of Ireland (CPI) with the title ‘Positive and active neutrality versus NATO and the EU’ was published in the Socialist VoiceApril issue.

The statement discussed the decision by the Irish government to expel a Russian diplomat as part of a co-ordinated response by EU and NATO member-countries after the suspicious chemical attack on a former Russian double agent. The CPI identified the decision as ‘another example of how far the Irish establishment has aligned this state with their military strategies’.

  • 'Tories trying to switch agenda', CP insists

Rather, they prefer to whip up 'nationalist hysteria' against a foreign enemy in which anyone who questions attacks on Russia or challenges higher British spending on armaments will be accused of treachery.

'This was the trap set for Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party leadership and then supported by right-wing Labour MPs', Mr Foster accused.

But the Labour leader had been right to insist that the British government should provide 'clear evidence' for its claims of Russian involvement in the Salisbury attack on a former spy and his daughter.

  • "EU destroying social democracy", claim Communists

'All of them have identified themselves closely with the EU and its disastrous neoliberal orientation in favour of austerity, privatisation and so-called "free market" policies that are destroying public services, the welfare state, collective bargaining, job security and social well-being', the CP international secretary continued.

'It would be madness, therefore, for the Labour Party to commit itself to any future arrangements binding Britain to EU single market rules that would prevent a left-led government from pursuing its popular manifesto programme', Mr Foster insisted.

Jeremy Corbyn should take no advice from a discredited charlatan whose contempt for public opinion is exceeded only by his contempt for honest and truthful government. Instead of a Tory Brexit, we need a Labour Brexit - not a betrayal of 17.4 million Leave voters. Tony Blair's fanatical support for the anti-democratic, pro-big business EU is the last thing Labour needs if it wants to keep millions of working class electors and win millions more from UKIP and the Tories at the next General Election.

  • Communist Party of Ireland: Ruling by fooling

CP IrelandAccording to the Financial Times (Wednesday 6 December), “Blocking a Brexit divorce deal is a high stakes game. It is in everyone’s interests to help May keep the show on the road.”

The leaking of the supposed deal regarding the “border issue” between Britain, Ireland and the EU shows that it would result in the economic border being placed in the Irish Sea (at ports of entry into the British state) and with the North of Ireland having a special relationship, called “regulatory alignment,” with the EU. This provoked an immediate tantrum from the DUP and the UUP, who fear even any apparent weakening of the union with Britain.
