CODEPINK’s Medea Benjamin disrupted Mike Pompeo speaking today at Organization of American States in DC to protest U.S. administration support the coup taking place in Venezuela.  Her sign read “OAS: Don’t Support a Coup in Venezuela.”

Benjamin spoke out: “Pompeo and the OAS should not be orchestrating a coup in Venezuela. The U.S. has a long and sordid history of supporting coups in Latin America and they always turned out horrible for the people. Look at Guatemala in 53’ and Chile in 73’, as well as Honduras today.”

Adding to the horror of a coup in Venezuela, we are appalled that Trump has appointed himself dictator of the world, empowered to decide who is president of a sovereign country. "No one in a democratic country, especially not the media, should be supporting Trump’s unilateral action to declare Juan Guaido as the Interim President of Venezuela,” said CODEPINK co-founder Jodie Evans.

As a fascist persecution, the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, described the pronouncement made by the President of the Republic of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, who after the femicide perpetrated by a Venezuelan against his partner -a young Ecuadorian- incited the security forces of that country to apply “the full weight of the law” through the creation of brigades that will be in charge of controlling Venezuelan immigrants in the streets, work spaces and the border, a fact that immediately triggered the violence and the xenophobia against the rest of the compatriots that are in that country.

They fight with a socialism that does not exist. They fight against an anti-utopia that does not belong to anyone. They imagine a world without family, without order, without market, without freedom. The right-wing liberals of the world invented a ghost, they hung the sign of “socialism” and now they are seeing it everywhere, especially, and all the time in Venezuela. But it is enough.
