Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova’s answer to a RIA Novosti question in connection with new anti-Venezuela sanctions imposed by the United States

Question: What do you think about the new restrictions that the US administration has imposed on Venezuela? Will they influence the process of the intra-Venezuelan dialogue?

Maria Zakharova: On August 5, President Donald Trump signed an executive order freezing all Venezuelan state assets on US territory and also prohibiting all US individuals and legal entities from doing business with the legitimate government of Venezuela and its representatives.

The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, demanded on Tuesday the United Nations Organization (UN) to make a pronouncement before the illegal economic blockade imposed by the United States government on the oil nation, which has been formalized by the President Donald Trump’s most recent executive order.

Specifically, the diplomat referred to the Secretary General of the agency, António Guterres, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, whose report released last July by her Office, was questioned by the Venezuelan government which submitted 70 observations.

In an interview offered to the Central Edition program, broadcast through the multistate Telesur this Friday, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, rejected and repudiated the new threats of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, on the imposition of a possible naval or quarantine blockade to the South American country with support from neighboring countries.

He also insisted that the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN), must act against these threats to peace and international security pronounced by the ruling elite of Washington, “we will insist on each of the Permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council to comply with the Charter of the United Nations, they have that obligation (…) The United States should be immediately neutralized by the multilateral system, by the United Nations to avoid a tragedy”.

During an Open Debate of the United Nations Security Council (UN) on armed conflicts and their effects on the civilian population, the permanent ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Samuel Moncada, denounced the constant war threats by the United States against the South American country.

“The Government of Donald Trump for the last two years has been dedicated to planning a war against Venezuela through the economic blockade, the looting of our wealth, sabotage in food purchases; and continues with increasingly serious actions”, he said.

This Thursday, in statements to the press, the spokeswoman of the Chancellery of the Russian Federation, María Zajárova, called on the United States government and the countries of the European Union, to put aside the interference in the internal affairs and negotiation between the Venezuelan government and the opposition, which are carried out in Barbados.

Time and time again since our independence in 1981, we have been consistently electing one of two political parties and yielding the same results. High poverty rate, high unemployment rate, high cost of living, inefficient governance, and the most obvious is the super-bond which we, the people and our children, are paying for the multiple corrupted contracts and poor decisions of those political parties.  The super-bond’s value is over one billion dollars! Where can we find the one billion dollars’ worth of national development?  Can we find it in our roads paved properly to ease the transportation of the people and resources for the benefit of our country? NO! Can we find it in the construction of the new educational facilities or improved national infrastructure? NO!  Can we find it in the formation of national health care coverage for the people and the new equipment and facilities in our national hospital system? NO!

From the Miraflores Palace, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received and recognized the activists who make up the Collective of Protection of the Embassy of Venezuela in Washington with the replica of the Saber of Simon Bolivar as a token of gratitude to their work of protection against the threats of illegal taking by representatives of Juan Guaidó and the aggressions sponsored by the White House.

The activists remained for more than a month and a half demanding respect for international law and Venezuelan sovereignty until their forced eviction on May 13.

As part of the simultaneous activities carried out by Zwelivelile Mandlesizwe, South African activist, politician, and grandson of Nelson Mandela in Venezuela, he visited on Sunday the Cuartel de la Montaña 4F, in the January 23 parish, Caracas, on the occasion of commemorating 65 years of the birth of Commander Hugo Chavez.

Military Academy of the Bolivarian Army, Caracas .- “More than 80 percent of Venezuelans reject the call for a military intervention on our country”, said the constitutional president of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, referring to various studies of public opinion expressing “the union of the people of Venezuela in defense of sovereignty, self-determination of the sacred nature of Venezuela to peace”.

Comrade First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Army General Raul Castro Ruz,
Comrade Lazo,
Comrade Rodriguez,
Dr Eusebio Leal,
Colleague Foreign Minister of the Republic of The Gambia Mamadou Tangara,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Friends,

It is a great honour and privilege for me to visit the National Capitol building, which was designed by architects from Havana, Evelio Govantes and Félix Cabarrocas. This building is highly symbolic for the Cuban statehood and the people of Cuba, embodying the continuity of eras and generations. It is here that the tomb of an unknown independence fighter who fought for the freedom of his homeland is located, a sacred place for every Cuban. It is the seat of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power, which seeks effective solutions for ensuring the steady advancement of Cuba’s socioeconomic development.

Minister,
My dear Bruno,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Colleagues,

The talks that we have held were very rich in content. We carried out a 360-degree review of the strategic relations between Russia and Cuba, primarily in the context of the agreements of principle that were reached during Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez’s visit to Moscow in November 2018.

As Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla has said, we had a meeting in May 2019 in Moscow. These regular contacts reflect our commitment to further stepping up our relations in all areas without exception.
