The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine calls in an urgent action for the friends of Palestine, movements for justice and liberation and the Palestinian and Arab communities everywhere in the world to stand with Gaza under attack at this critical moment. We issue this call in honor and mourning for our two heroic comrades, Mohammed al-Tatari and Mohammed Odeh, martyred today by Zionist occupation forces who attacked them as they fought for the freedom of their land, Palestine, and all of its people.

This murder at the hands of the colonial forces comes after an attack yesterday, in which Zionist forces sought to invade the Gaza Strip in an undercover operation to kidnap or assassinate leaders of the Palestinian resistance. They killed 7 Palestinians who died fighting to defend their land – but the Palestinian resistance did not let them get away with their crime. The resistance has held fast, fighting heroically against one of the most heavily armed powers in the world and striking powerful blows against the assassins and murderers.

Palestinian brothers and sisters,

The leadership of the World Federation of Trade Unions, who met this week, extends to the heroic Palestinian People and to the Palestinian workers a true, comradely salute. The solidarity of WFTU, our proletarian Internationalism to the struggle of the Palestinian People is based on principles and on values which no one can stop.

Today morning Israel unleashed new air strikes against targets along Gaza Strip, while the Israeli Minister for Defense ordered the closure of the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossing points as well as the  restriction of the Gaza fishing zone from 6 to 3 miles.

On the behalf of 95 million workers in 130 countries all over the world, the WFTU condemns this new escalation of Israeli aggressiveness against the people of Palestine.

With 146 votes in favor was approved on Tuesday afternoon, in the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), a resolution to allow the State of Palestine the right to make statements, present and co-sponsor proposals and amendments, give explanations of vote, have the right to respond in relation to the positions and to present procedural motions on behalf of the G77 + China.

The Palestinian refugee camp al-Jalazun in the West Bank is home to some 15,000 Palestinians, 5,000 of them children and teens. The settlement of Beit El was established nearby in 1977, on private land belonging to residents of the town of al-Bireh and the villages of Yabrud and Dura al-Qare’.

The Israel Prison Service (IPS) recently provided data regarding the number of Palestinian minors from the West Bank held in Israeli prisons since the beginning of 2018. The data was provided in response to a freedom-of-information request made by HaMoked, an Israeli NGO that advocates for the rights of Palestinian minors from the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem who are arrested and interrogated by Israeli security forces.

The village of ‘Urif, with a population of some 3,600, is located southwest of Nablus in the northern West Bank. Due to its proximity to the settlement of Yitzhar and its satellite outposts, village residents have been suffering for years from repeated attacks by settlers.

Yitzhar was established in 1983, only about one kilometer from ‘Urif farmlands, and most of the settler attacks take place in farmland close to the village water tower, which is situated some 500 meters from its easternmost homes.

Seven Palestinians were killed Friday, September 28, by Israeli military gunfire along the border with the Gaza Strip during the weekly Great March of Return demonstrations near the fence, including two boys aged 12 and 14, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The victims were: Yousef Abu Zarifa, age 12, who was mortally wounded east of Khan Yunis, and 14-year-old Mohammed Na’if al-Houm, who was killed east of al-Bureij. In addition, Friday’s death toll also included: Iyad Khalil Ahmed Asheer, 18, who was shot east of Gaza City; Mohammed ‘Ali Anshasi, 18, who was hit east of Khan Yunis; Mohammed Waleed Haniyeh, 23, who was fatally injured east of Gaza City; Mohammed Bassam Shasha, 24, also wounded East of Gaza; and Ashraf al-‘Awadah, 26, who died of his wounds after being wounded east of al-Bureij.

After Mahmoud Abbas’s speech at the UN, the Palestinian People's Party called to confront the pressure for ‘negotiations’ by underlining the urgent need to end Israeli occupation.

Bassam al-Salhi, secretary-general of the Palestinian People's Party (PPP) and member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said that the Palestinian issue has long been approached by the United States and some European and Arab parties a matter of a return to negotiations. However, given current the position of the US, the immediate end of the occupation and the achievement of the independence of the State of Palestine recognized by the UN is important as ever. This should be carried out along with the guarantee of the rights of the Palestinian refugees, foremost of which is the right of return in accordance with the UN Resolution 194.

unoNew York, 27 September 2018

In the name of God, the most merciful and beneficent
Excellency, Ms. Maria Fernanda Espinosa, President of the United Nations General Assembly,
Excellency, Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations,
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

In these days lastyear, I came before you appealing for freedom, independence and justice for my oppressed people, who are suffering under Israeli occupation for more than fifly-one years. I return to you today as this colonial occupation continues to suffocate us and to undermine our serious efforts to build the institutions of our cherished State, which this august General Assembly recognized in the year 2012.

The 2018 olive harvest season will last approximately from mid-September to mid-November. However, a pest that infects olive trees, particularly in the norther West Bank, and settler violence against Palestinian farmers are expected to significantly reduce this year’s yield compared with 2017.
